Indian Prairie Educational FoundationEnriching Education for District 204 Students

Gombert teacher earns A+

The Indian Prairie Educational Foundation and District 204 honored second-grade teacher Mariah Reed as an A+ Award recipient.

You can watch the A+ Award team’s surprise visit to recognize Mariah for “Making a Difference” at A+ Award video.

Parent Christina Garcia submitted a nomination sharing she wanted Reed to know what a profound impact she made on her son Miguel.  “My son did not like school when he was in first grade,” Garcia said.  “Miss Reed ignited his passion for education.  She went out of her way to help him build confidence as a reader and has been such a positive energy in his life.”  Miguel, now in third grade, described his former teacher as “kind, nice, smart, clever, awesome and the best teacher ever.”

Reed says she went into education thanks to the positive influence of teachers she had who impacted her desire to make a difference for others.  She is in her second year at Gombert and has already found herself well connected with students.  “I love my job.  It’s so rewarding, especially when you see what you are doing right now and as they move grades and they are carrying on what you taught them.”

Wells Fargo Advisors is partnering with IPEF and District 204 to help recognize one staff member each month for making a difference for students.  To celebrate these outstanding staff members, Wells Fargo Advisors is donating $500 for the staff member to use in his or her school.
